On November 5th, we celebrated All Saints’ Sunday. In the 1 Kings 19:1-12 story the Prophet Elijah on Mount Horeb listened for the voice of God in the wind, the earthquake, and the fire only to discover that God was speaking instead in a “still, small voice.” Throughout history many of our most celebrated saints, from Elijah to Mother Teresa, have gone through periods of time in which they experienced a profound sense of God’s absence. And then they learned to listen for God in the silence.
