The prophet Isaiah (chapter 9:2-7) foretold the birth of a child: to himself? to King Ahaz of Judah? To the world as depicted in the book of Luke? We hold that image as a sign of God’s love, even as we see the begger in the street as a sign of Christ, a starving child as a memory of Bethlehem, or even a child of our church on this traditional seventh week of Advent, as a sign of hope in God, ever around us.
